My name is Ijeoma Okwuchi.

There is nothing special about me. I am an ordinary woman. Married to an ordinary man, Mike Okwuchi. Used to have an ordinary job, working at a bank in Aba where we used to live. My daughters are ordinary girls, born 10 years apart from each other, but ordinary all the same. We did ordinary things and lived our satisfied ordinary lives until...

When God decides to play a major part in your life there is very little you can do to change it. When you do not know Him, it becomes a scary escapade where you begin to even resent Him for picking you out. But when you know Him, and recognise His presence and His actions and His faithfulness and love, then it is not scary at all. Rather, it is overwhelming and beautiful... as you surrender to Him and let Him be your guide in deed.

That plane crash on the 10th of December, 2005 changed our lives for ever! I guess that no matter how it turned out, it would have still changed our lives for ever! Kechi, my daughter lost her dearest friends and schoolmates in that incident and the nation still mourns the disaster that befell it on that day! For us...? For us, things stopped being ordinary... and haven't ceased to unfold, daily and surely.

This is  no ordinary story and I had no peace until it got birthed. God's promise concerning the book is that the testimonies recorded in the book will change lives and bring many to God. I pray it does exactly that! Please share your feelings about the book in the blog. We will love to know how you have been affected by it. I also promise to continue to update you all on every progress that Kechi continues to make.

Happy Reading!

  1. Hello Mrs. Okwuchi
Read your book and I must say that it is truly amazing.
For a while now, I've been at a stage in my spiritual life where it's almost like i'm fighting God; because I have failed to understand why certain things happen. Reading this book not only touched me a lot, but also opened my eyes to the ways God works. Thank you for sharing this :)

  2. Dear Khalida,
This is the reason this book was written. My prayer is that if this story will be a source of encouragement to even one person, then my job is done.
God bless you immensely, and may He continue to work out His purpose in your life.
    .....And you're welcome.

  3. Ije, my darling daughter,
I must congratulate you on the marvellous work Art that this book has turned out to be. Unlike others who are now reading the finished work, I did some proof reading of the text many months ago, and I honestly wondered how it was going to turn out. The ability to translate your deep emotional feelings and experiences into a book of literary excellence and deep spiritual alertness is nothing short of creative genius and divine direction. Congrats and God bless.
    Daddy.

  5. R4R was ‘a bit’ more than a book for me for obvious reasons- I am involved! And on so many levels too! Ijeoma Okwuchi, the writer is my direct younger sister and Kechi is my niece. We pretty much come from a closely-knit (even of somewhat clannish) family background and you can imagine that we all lived through the experiences captured in this book.
This book turned out to be an emotional roller coaster for me. I broke down and wept at the brief grief of my sister when she thought Kechi had gone to be with the Lord and was cut by that deep prayer she said handing her daughter to the Lord; and broke into praise worship, rejoicing with her at the miraculous deliverance by the Most High God! All this was by page 12! And it was like a weird version of déjà-vu because I had lived the real experience before the book version!
The rest of the book did not let up as I rejoiced again at every milestone Kechi crossed and suffered with them at the difficult moments -like that ‘infernal itching’ which I actually experienced in South Africa with them; and all the gamut of experiences that were to follow.
The key thread –the main learning-which ran across the book, for me, was the whole concept of full surrender to the will of God. We typically mouth phrases of surrender, sing songs like ‘I surrender all’ but deep down we take matters into our hands at the slightest provocation. This book is a day-by-day conscious walk with God in the area of surrendering all to Him-even in the face of situations that should normally cause us to feel helpless and hopeless.
It was also humbling to see God keep showing up when they (we) really surrender all and trust Him. He is a keeper of His promises. And the book reinforced for me that God will not always do what we expect him to, after all He is a sovereign God;but show up, He will! And will the Lord answer every prayer we say-even in extreme circumstances like Kechi’s? This book teaches that he does not. But instead He know what burdens we need to bear in order to fulfil His purpose in our lives and will make all things beautiful in His time!
This book is also a journey into God. Ijeoma ‘s experiences deepened her walk with and trust in God and she was able to lead Kechi through her bewildered and pain-ridden state to a greater understanding of her Maker.
It is a story of faith towards God and of conscious consistency in believing that what He says He will do. For the new believer, this book is proof that God is real and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). For those who already have made a commitment to God but have slipped into cynicism and unbelief, this book sharpens the understanding of divine election and selection- which is the prerogative of the God whom we serve.
